The Role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Can recognize the signs of abuse and ensure cases of suspected abuse are referred to the LA by members of the Safeguarding Team via the Early Help Enquiry – One Front Door
- Ensure the safeguarding team has a good knowledge of local procedures and ensure accurate and secure records are maintained
- Always be available for staff to discuss any safeguarding concerns and ensure the safeguarding team have access to regular supervision
- Refer cases where a person is dismissed or left due to risk/harm to a child to the Disclosure and Barring Service or Police if a crime has been committed. Report any staff concerns to the LADO (Local Authority Designated Officer)
- Liaise as and when necessary with all school staff and other agencies on matters of safety and safeguarding
- Act as a source of support, advice and expertise for all staff.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the school’s safeguarding procedures, policies and ensure they link to other relevant policiesg. behaviour, attendance, physical intervention, intimate care, recruitment and retention etc
- Ensure all staff have the relevant training to undertake their roles and responsibilities including induction arrangements
- Ensure up to date safeguarding information, policies and procedures are easily accessible on the school website, newsletters and around school to allow parents and visitors to be aware of the school’s current safeguarding procedures and contacts
- Ensure each member of staff and governors has access to and understands the school’s child protection policy and procedures and they are reviewed in agreed timeframes. This includes PREVENT, FGM, CSE and e-safety
- Encourage a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings, among all staff in any measures the school puts into place to protect them
- Ensure any Child Protection records are stored securely. Ensure any child protection records and information are transferred to the appropriate setting when pupil’s leave school
- Ensure data is monitored to evaluate any possible trends or areas of concern
- Ensure the School Central Record is maintained by the Finance Officer, is compliant and checked by the Principal and Chair of Governors
