Today, Year 3 were comparing and measuring the distance a toy car travelled on different surfaces as part of our Forces and Magnets topic. We planned our investigation together then used various surfaces around our school building to carry out our investigation and record our findings. It was such a fun way to explore the forces that we encounter every day and certainly created some fantastic discussion.
The Year 3 children enjoyed the introduction to their new topic Rocks and Soils. They worked with each other to look at different types of rocks, and describe them by their properties. They all rally enjoyed this hands-on approach and we’re sure it will be a ‘solid’ way to learn!
Today, 6S managed to get an early sneak peek at their next topic – ‘Rocks’.
We looked at a range of rocks and discussed their properties. We also talked about how they looked, felt and even smelled! The children were also able to explore some fossils and try to guess what they would have been millions of years ago.
We then looked at some of the key scientific vocabulary that they will be using as part of this topic. Some really big words in there!
I’m sure this will be a fascinating topic for them to get stuck in in to after Christmas!
In Year 3 we have started our Science topic ‘light and shadows’. We have already carried out two investigations: one to observe and measure what happens to a shadow throughout a school day (we really made good use of the fair weather) and other was testing materials to see if they were opaque, transparent or translucent.
